Adopt a dolphin

In 2005, Mundo Azul initiated a common long-term research project to photo-identify and monitor Bottlenose dolphin populations along the central Peruvian coast.
So far 88 dolphins have been individually identified and the first ones are now open for adoption!

What does it mean to adopt a dolphin?

By donating an adoption fee of 50 $US or more, you make an important contribution to our ongoing dolphin-conservation efforts. Your adoption fee directly supports our dolphin photo-identification and monitoring efforts, and our goal that your adopted Bottlenose will remain part of a healthy dolphin population along the central Peruvian coast.

Your payment has to be made to the following bank account in Peru:

Banks name: Banco Wiese Sudameris
Banks address: Av. Petit Thouars 3890, San isidro, Lima 27, Peru
SWIFT-code: BSUDPEPL - Banco Wiese Sudameris
Account holder: Asociación Mundo Azul
Account: Cuenta Corriente M.E. No 000-1887520

While supporting our work you are directly contributing to dolphin conservation in various aspects:

  • Improving our knowledge about the presence and distribution of dolphins helps us to create the scientific basis for the implementation of dolphin watching pilot projects that involve local fishermen and provide them with an economic alternative to illegal dolphin killing.
  • Being regularly present at sea with our research team at the same time means to improve vigilance - an important element in order to avoid illegal dolphin killing.
  • Studying the presence and behavior of dolphins in the area in the long term, makes it possible to monitor the populations development and to correct eventual negative impacts of dolphin watchig tourism.

After adopting your dolphin, you will receive privileged access to Mundo Azul´s dolphin observation data for one year. We will regularly send you a special email Newsletter, providing you with updated information on the results of our dolphin conservation campaign and all the information available on your dolphin, including when and where he was sighted, as well as the size and observed activity of the observed Bottlenose dolphin population.
