Mundo Azul is implementing regularly dolphin surveys. The next program date for our 18 days dolphin surveys are: May 2008 When filling out the online application form, please choose the exact dates you wish to take part.
Participation is limited to maximum of eight volunteers at the same time, so reserve your spot now!
On your first day (day of arrival we will pick you up on the airport and bring you to your hotel (international arrivals in Lima are usually late at night). On day two we will pick you up for the initial briefing and project orientation in our office in Lima or Pucusana. In the afternoon, you travel to the study site with our research team and the equipment you will need for dolphin photo-identification. During day 3-7, you are out patrolling the coastline of Pucusana or Paracas in search of the local populations of bottlenose dolphins for observation and data collection. You will stay at a local hostal in Paracas and/or in the guest rooms of our local office in Pucusana, and leave early each morning in the research vessel. Each afternoon you will return to port for a meal of good local fare and a much-deserved rest. On day 8 and 9 you will have some spare time – it is possible to additionally book on a fun-program designed for our volunteers (more detailed information see below). In the evening of the ninth day, both groups switch the study site. During day 10-14, you are out patrolling the coastline of Pucusana or Paracas in search of the local populations of bottlenose dolphins. The days 15 and 16 are free again (you may take part in another special fun-program). On the evening of day 16 you are returning to Pucusana. On day 17 we are going to meet in order to discuss the results of the survey and hold the final briefing. The next day you return home or may travel on.
Costs:
To participate in the dolphin photo-identification project, we require that you make the above listed minimum contribution per participant. 100% of your payment goes to underwrite the costs of your participation in the project and support the conservation goals of Mundo Azul. The cost of the program includes: accommodation, breakfast, lunch-boxes, project-related transport, project development and administration costs, as well as a direct contribution to the running costs of the dolphin photo-identification project. Mundo Azul staff will get in touch with you via email to confirm receipt of your application form and confirm if space is available in the volunteer program for the date you have chosen. We will provide full details of payment options and ask you to deposit 50 percent of the project fee to reserve your space. While preparing for your trip, you will receive in-depth information on all aspects of the program including detailed travel logistics, what to bring, health and safety tips, a marine ecosystem, language, and culture tutorial, strategies to support your conservation work, and a list of recommend readings. Our staff is always available to answer any questions you may have. You will make your final project payment upon arrival in Lima, where you will be met at the airport and given the full support of our staff during your volunteer work Please note that the program may be booked for up for some time in advance.
