On a global level, the number of people interested in volunteering in conservation programs has increased hugely over the past decade. This trend confirms the general public's growing awareness of critical conservation and community development issues and their determination to actively contribute in order to cause positive change. For Mundo Azul it is a thrilling experience to work with people from all over the world, which are willing to dedicate their time and money to important life-impacting programs around the world rather than to another packaged holiday! In order to take part in Mundo Azuls Volunteer program you do not have to be a biologist or natural science student. All you need is to be open minded and count with a strong interest in nature. You will be trained by our research staff to master all necessary methods of scientific field research, in order to make the program a success and be able to enjoy yourself while doing so. Participating in Mundo Azuls conservation programs provides a chance for a unique in-depth experience of Peru´s nature and culture. Therefore, Mundo Azul invites you to become a Conservation Volunteer! See below our current Volunteer programs in the Peruvian coast and rainforest:
According to Mundo Azul´s undercover research at least 3000 dolphins and porpoises are illegally killed for human consumption in Peru each year. Mundo Azul aims at protecting marine wildlife and ecosystems, especially dolphins. As a Conservation Volunteer for our Dolphin Conservation Program you will contribute directly to this effort by studying and monitoring local populations of coastal bottlenose dolphins with our research team. You will be trained to photo-identify individual dolphins, record data on the location and behaviour of local dolphin populations, and observe other marine wildlife such as sea lions, sea turtles, Humbolt penguins, and marine otters. Don´t miss the opportunity to be at the heart of this exiting marine research program! See more details.
Amazon River Dolphin photo identification
Perus Amazon rainforest is home to two species of river dolphins: the Amazon river dolphin (Inia geoffrensis) and the Tucuxi (Sotalia fluviatilis). There are no current population estimates for Peru, very little is known about their behavior and about the threats they are facing. While taking part as a conservation volunteer in Mundo Azuls research trips to the rainforest around the city of Iquitos and in the National Reserve Pacaya Samiria, you are not only participating in exciting research that is vital for the future conservation of these two amazing cetacean species. You will also be able to observe and enjoy the huge biodiversity of butterflies, birds and monkeys in the area. Don’t miss the opportunity to explore the Amazon rainforest biodiversity! See more details.
Condor and Puma Conservation Program
For many people around the world the Andean Condor is the most symbolic bird of Peru, representing in its very existence the essence of the Andes. Few however are aware of the fact that less and less of these majestic birds can be seen soaring high above ground looking out for food. Condors shy away from populated areas and are falling victim to carcasses that have been poisoned by Andean farmers in order to kill pumas. Pumas and Condors – both are threatened species whose populations are dropping in an ongoing extinction process. Read here how you can help saving both species. While taking part in this amazing quest to find condors and pumas you will be able to explore the fascinating landscapes of the Andes, to view a great variety of bird species, like birds of prey and hummingbirds, and to visit amazing archeological sites of the pre-inca culture the Atavillos. See more details.
Are you and advanced certified diver with at least 60 logged open water dives and a strong interest in marine biology? If so, we do offer you a unique oportunity to take part in exciting submarine research programs on Peruvian marine fish and invertebrate species. Learn to identify species, to locate and collect them under water or to realice a underwater fish count. Don´t miss this chance to help solving some of the many remaining secrets of underwater ecology. See more details.
